1/29 Survey: State Income Tax Cut Proposal
A windfall for those who pay a lot of income tax, but a potential bite coming from the sales tax
Governor Reynolds' new tax bill would speed up a previously approved timetable for state income tax reductions and make further cuts by dropping Iowa's income tax rate to a flat tax of 3.65% for 2024 and make the change retroactive to the beginning of the year. Iowans would see their income tax rate further drop to 3.5% in 2025.
Political opponents are calling it a recipe for disaster and inequity. They cite cuts to important services or a sales tax increase of 7.3 cents to bring sales tax to 15% just to replace the lost revenue.
Today's Question: Do you support Governor Reynolds' proposal for a flat state income tax of 3.65%?
